About IAMT

What makes us unique?

We Train the Entire Human Being

While we have different program options (Professional Training, Summer Intensive, and Drop-Ins coming soon), we keep the same philosophy throughout everything we do. We focus on three parts of a successful and fulfilled performer:

  • training excellence
  • career management
  • the artist's journey

We'll explain our approach to each.

Training Excellence

We train you in the three main disciplines of the musical theatre form: acting, dancing, and singing. All of our classes are practice-based and have you performing in front of our experienced and expert faculty, getting constant feedback. You will train in small, leveled class, which lets us give you dramatically more individual attention. We believe in generalist style training, so that you can be a well-rounded artist -- sharpening areas of strength while continuously training in areas that still need development. We are also always on top of where the industry is *right now*, making sure our students have the skills they need for Broadway today.

No training is complete without performance and you'll have many opportunities to showcase your talents. We have relationships with producers, playwrights, and directors in New York City and as our student, you'll have the opportunity to work with them in many ways:

  • NEW WORKS: we bring together accomplished writers, directors, composers, and choreographers to develop original productions. This is your chance to create something brand new, from the first spark of an idea to the final curtain call.
  • STUDENT-DIRECTED SHOWS: you get the opportunity to pitch your own production, assemble a team of classmates, and bring it to life on our stages. If your proposal is selected, you’ll have the chance to direct, perform, design, and manage every aspect of your show.
  • PRE-PRODUCTIONS: we connect students with live touring productions and Broadway shows, allowing them to work on production numbers or even full-scale shows. Gain invaluable experience, network with industry professionals, and see firsthand what it takes to bring professional performances to the stage.
  • END OF SEMESTER CONCERTS: this is your chance to showcase what you've learned in our program. You'll perform in front of a live audience of friends, family and our faculty, demonstrating your skills and talents.

Career Management

We recognize that training is only one part of the formula for success. We offer a comprehensive career management program that will help you navigate the business side of show business. We want you to understand how to market yourself, how to audition, how to network, and how to manage your finances. Check out Agent April in the Professional Training program and you’ll get a sense of how seriously we take this. Even in the Summer Intensive, we bring in real casting directors and agents in to watch auditions and we've had students finish the month with industry representation. Our curriculum/programming and staffing are specifically designed to maximize industry connections and help you build your network while still in school. Choosing IAMT is the start of what we want to be a long and successful career.

On day one at IAMT, you will immediately be presented with industry insiders. You will train with people who have directed, produced, choreographed and performed in Broadway shows. These aren’t occasional masterclasses. These are your faculty. You will see them repeatedly, week after week, forming a relationship and giving you an entire network of professionals that you have access to. There are no guarantees in this industry, but having connections with established professionals is one of the best things you can possibly do for your career.

The Artist's Journey

Finally, it is essential to remember that life is wider and deeper than what happens on the boards or in front of the camera. The decision of where to spend critical development years is one of the most consequential you will ever make. Training and career management are important, but even more so is the quality of person you can become. Every single thing we do at IAMT is grounded in the belief that true art comes from the deep, sincere and ego-less connection to the true self.

We cannot promise you a Broadway role. No school can.

What we can promise you is that we will give you a space to turn you into the best possible version of the artist you were born to become.
