ABOUT
IAMT's Acting Curriculum
Acting is the backbone of the entire Program at IAMT. We bring the student’s unique, personal, and authentic characteristics to the situation being played using the breath. We don’t teach substitutions, picturing scene partners, Method, or any other traditional acting techniques. We use the breath as a focusing and cleansing tool to keep students present and “in the moment.” This helps create naturalism as students are forced to be in their own body, in that space, at that time.
Students will use the breath technique to both prepare audition pieces and rehearse performance-ready pieces. They will develop repertoire that includes everything from Shakespeare to traditional Broadway, including New Works being currently developed for off-Broadway productions that students have the opportunity to audition for. Students also receive direct instruction in dialect work, improv and optionally stage direction.
